Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) offers more than 130 programs and hundreds of courses to nearly 20,000 students each year. Through their network of 14 campuses, they provide inclusive and flexible access to education and specialized, industry-driven training.
NSCC was looking to modernize one of its certificate programs originally created by an external collaborator. Under tight timelines to reboot the program for the next semester, they sought external help for rapid deployment.
They needed to scrub the entire contents of an existing program to update the content from a provincial perspective in relation to the legislative requirements and best practices, incorporate evidence-based learning methodologies, and build additional material into the content to close gaps, including new modules and lessons, presentation slides, student assessments, and other supplemental tools.
In addition, the course instructors would need to be guided and trained on the newly redesigned program and the new materials.
Throughout the project, shiftED collaborated with NSCC, its industry partners, and the team of course instructors.
shiftED Academy created a 350-page participant guide that included all material to be covered in the certificate program. In addition, we developed individual and group assignments with case studies to coincide with each of the 6 modules.
We also developed a facilitator guide, marking rubrics for all assignments and case studies, and co-branded slides with speaker notes for the instructors of the program. To ensure instructors were set-up for success, shiftED then provided train-the-trainer workshops to familiarize the instructors with the new material and the new format.
The project was delivered ahead of time while remaining within budget, allowing NSCC to open registration and prepare for launch in advance of anticipated timelines.
